A Language for Leadership in an Emergent World
With each passing day, our world seems to be speeding up. Collectively, our focus on productivity, AI advancement, and efficiency is creating an environment where we are increasingly disconnecting from our human nature. Our focus on doing more is distracting us from being more.
What our world desperately needs is a new paradigm for leadership: one that refocuses our attention on the humanity within the systems we create.
The new paradigm I propose is simple. But for a world in hyperdrive, its implications are profound.
Leadership is an act of creating space for people to Be.
Leadership as we know it, with a relentless focus on control, manipulation, and productivity, is dying before our eyes. It’s time to trade it in for something new. Something more human. Something with a focus on Being.
But the idea of Being-Centered Leadership brings up many questions. Namely, ‘What does it mean to Be?’ and ‘How do we honor Being while doing?’
This is where astrology can help us because astrology, fundamentally, is a language of Being.
Astrology?
Now, most people have very strong associations with the word astrology, for better or worse. For some, astrology is a favorite past-time. For others, it conjures up fear or derision. “It’s quackery. It’s unscientific.” (I’ve heard it all). However, most people misunderstand astrology, whether they’re a fan or not.
We live inside of a living, ever-evolving cosmos. Astrology tracks the energetic life of humans on Earth within the cyclical patterns of planetary bodies. Through observation and psychological correlation, we can use astrology as a tool for understanding the nature of our Being as humans. As a study and a practice, astrology has been tested, validated, and applied to human life through a myriad of cultural lenses for thousands of years.
Because so many people misunderstand astrology, I think it’s important to share what astrology is and what it isn’t.
Astrology is:
- An ancient knowledge system—a language—that is as much an art as it is a science.
- A powerful psychotherapeutic tool that helps you name what you’re experiencing, internally and relationally.
- A map of your soul’s curriculum that indicates themes you’re here to explore, refine, and embody over a lifetime.
- A way to make meaning of timing so you can work with life instead of fighting it.
- A bridge between the spiritual and practical, translating inner experience into language you can integrate through habits, decisions, and boundaries.
- Applicable in many different disciplines including leadership, finance, relationships, decision-making among others.
- A leadership tool, clarifying how you lead, where you leak energy, what you’re here to model, and what your Being naturally influences others.
Astrology is NOT:
- Crystal-ball prediction. While astrology can be used as a predictive tool, astrologer cannot see exactly what will happen to you. You are a Being of free will and your choices are always influencing how your life unfolds.
- A substitute for discernment, therapy, or lived experience. It’s a support, not a replacement tool for real inner work.
- A way to bypass responsibility. You’re sun sign (i.e. ‘I’m just a Scorpio’) is not an excuse for poor behavior.
Hidden within astrology is is a vast amount of spiritual and practical wisdom that can help us to understand the nature of our Being as humans. Fundamentally, astrology helps to frame our life experience within the context of a cosmos that is full of meaning, far from the mechanical view of the universe given to us my Newtonian physics.
Astrology & Leadership
If you were to tell me in 2018, when I began my course of study as a doctoral student in Leadership Studies, that I would end up writing my doctoral dissertation four years later on the use of astrology as a tool for self-discovery, I would not have believed you. But that’s exactly what happened.
(The Universe has funny ways of revealing our path to us).
After my spiritual awakening, I began to study astrology more seriously and that’s when I realized the actual power within the practice to help people connect deeply to their soul design—the essence of their Being. This was precisely what I noticed was missing in my studies on leadership. So, when it came time to conduct my doctoral research, I wanted to test the applicability of astrology within leadership contexts. Ultimately, this is what led me to the work that I do today with leaders and their teams.
Astrology gives leaders a language for what’s often difficult to name: the essence of their Being and the patterns that shape how they lead. In my work with individual leaders, I use the birth chart as a practical map for self-discovery, clarifying soul purpose and leadership mission, illuminating communication and influence styles, and revealing the energetic cycles they’re moving through. From there, we translate insight into embodiment: developing the internal capacities that make leadership sustainable—presence, inner awareness, emotional regulation, and aligned decision-making—so their leadership becomes an expression of who they are, not just what they do.
With teams, astrology becomes a shared framework for understanding dynamics and building cohesion. I help teams see the “energetic architecture” of how they operate together: where collaboration flows, where friction tends to emerge, how trust is built, how conflict is processed, and what each person naturally contributes when they’re resourced and aligned. The result is greater clarity of identity, both individually and collectively, along with cleaner communication, stronger role alignment, and a more conscious culture where people can work with one another’s differences rather than around them.
This is the type of work where leadership and business meets spirituality and consciousness. And through this work, we can create space for people to Be.
This Energetic Moment
At present, we’re sitting at the intersection of an important energetic impasse. The Solar Eclipse on February 17 in Aquarius is going to activate major changes in society and the ways we relate to one another. Later this month, on February 20, the Saturn/Neptune conjunction in Aries (at the very beginning of the zodiac) will usher in powerful new beginnings. This is a defining epochal transit: dissolving old structures and birthing new ones. Now, our vision must meet reality. From this point onward, the rest of the year is excellent for leaders who can dream precisely and operationalize meaning.
Aries is a sign of the individual while Aquarius is about the sign of the collective consciousness. The cosmos is asking us to reflect on what sovereignty means to us—individually and collectively—so that we step into it and stop giving our power away over to systems that deplete our life force.
It is time that we muster the courage to do things in a new way. In a world that is stepping into sovereign leadership, we need tools for helping us to know ourselves deeply…not at the superficial level, but at the level of soul. Astrology is one of these tools.
