A New Concept for a World in Transition

We are living in times of great transition. With each passing day, we are observing the simultaneous collapse of an old world and the emergence of a new. “Traditional leadership”—a structure of power and control that has ruled most of our human systems for centuries—is under great stress. News cycles and social media feeds are cluttered with proof. But even if you can’t see it, most of us can feel that something is not as it was. We’re on the edge of major change.

The astrological energy of February is going to push these changes even further. Uranus, the planet of change, shock, and awakening has stationed direct in the final degrees of Taurus. The planet of unpredictability and freedom has been moving through the sign that rules our financial system since May of 2008. Over the next several months, the cracks in our financial system that have been duct-taped together since the 2008 collapse, are likely to break open.

On February 13, Saturn, the planet of structures, power, systems, governments, and leadership moves into the independent sign of Aries. Over the next few years, we will witness action that demonstrates our desires of sovereignty, independence, and the creation of new systems that honor creativity and authenticity.

The most energetically potent transit of the entire year happens on February 20th when Saturn conjuncts Neptune in Aries. This is a threshold moment for humanity, where the structures (internal and external) that threaten sovereignty will dissolve. Expect confusion, uncertainty, and sudden events that change us as a species forever.

This energies of this month present us with a reckoning opportunity. We are standing at a crossroads of change. We are being pushed to our edges because collectively, we need to be reminded of our inherent worth—our capacities for creative expression, compassion, intuition, and love—that we’ve been neglecting in a world dominated by technological process, AI, and geopolitical uncertainty.

Leadership is being pushed to its limits. And the paradox is that, even though it feels like we can’t trust our leaders, we need strong leadership more than ever. But we need something very different. To bring us to where we’re going as a species, we need a new conception of what it means to lead.

A New Definition

In a time of great change, I propose a new definition of leadership:

Leadership is an act of creating space for people to Be.

In this definition, leadership is about creating the energetic space for humans (i.e. spiritual beings with inherent gifts and talents) to show up in their fullest expression. Leaders then are responsible for creating the conditions in which human flourishing can occur.

In a world hyper-focused on activity…our work, our Instagram likes, our social calendars…it is foreign to focusing on our Being—the essence of which makes us human. Yet, it is precisely what we need to connect to at this time.

But, I realize, this new definition brings up a few questions:

What does it mean to Be?

How do you honor one’s Being?

How do we begin to lead from Being?

Fundamentally, learning to lead from Being is about connecting with your soul and tapping into spiritual sovereignty. It’s about connecting to the capacities within us that make us uniquely human and creating space for them to express in this world. It’s about bringing greater consciousness to what we’re doing by connecting with the source from which it emerges.

The core tenet of this leadership paradigm is sovereignty: connection with our true self. Alignment with our core values, desires, and gifts. We are only sovereign when we are aligned with the truth of our soul’s expression. What’s playing on the world stage is an extreme form of misalignment. When leaders lose inner alignment, our collective consciousness distorts and sovereignty is thwarted.

In a world that treats people as economic inputs—cogs in a wheel of a broken system—a sovereign conception of what it means to lead is antithetical to current mainstream practice of leadership. It awakens a central truth: we’ve lost our way because we’ve turned away from our true nature.

Becoming a Being-Centered Leader

Applying the concept of Being-Centered Leadership doesn’t require you to become a spiritual devotee or to abandon everything you’ve ever known about leadership, but it does take a willingness to develop certain capacities within yourself. I call these the 7 Capacities of Being-Centered Leadership.

These deeply-human capacities form the core of the work I do with teams and individuals. Whether I’m working with a team in an on-site workshop or with my community members inside of the Soul Purpose Collective, I observe these principles change the way people relate to themselves and to one another.

When people start to embody these capacities—by connecting with their Being—the result is the promotion of greater clarity, alignment, sovereignty, and impact. Ultimately, this work promotes deep transformation, starting from within.

We’re Only Limited By What We Think

Our beliefs create reality. If you want to change your reality, you need to change your beliefs. Our collective beliefs about leadership are changing because our ideas about who we are, as humans, is changing. (And if you’re reading this, you are part of the collective who are in resonance with these changes).

The ways we’ve been thinking and practicing leadership for centuries keeps us limited. We’ve reached the ultimate limit of what we can do with our old conception of leadership. Environmental degradation, social unrest, political divide, economic insecurity, human rights violations, wars and so much more are the result of what we tolerate and expect from leaders.

But, it’s important to remember one thing:

The limits we experience—personally and professionally—are a reflection of the limits we place on our consciousness.

This month, the Universe is going to challenge us to confront where we are experiencing limitation…in our creativity, in our sovereignty, and in our thinking.

It’s high time we start thinking about leadership differently.

If you’re ready to honor your sovereignty as a leader, you can join us this month inside the Soul Purpose Collective. And if you’re interested in exploring how you can elevate your team by bringing Being-Centered Leadership to your organization, send me a message.

This month, we are being presented with an opportunity to come back into coherence with our Truth and reconnect with that which honors our sovereignty.

Despite the chaos, we can always choose to return to our Being.
